Shanghai Institute of Ceramics at Chinese Academy of Sciences was originated from the Engineering Institute of National Central
Academy founded in 1928. It was named as the Institute of Metallurgy and Ceramics in 1953. In 1959, Shanghai Institute of
Ceramic Chemistry and Technology was reformed, and then was renamed as the Shanghai Instituteof Ceramics since the year
of 1984. After 50 years development, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics has become a comprehensive research institute
engaged in inorganic nonmetallic materials research and formed a completed scientific research system combing
basic research, applied research, engineering research and industrialization task.
